Welcome to MusicEdMajor.net, the online home for everything related to the study of Music Education at the collegiate level! I am Andy Zweibel, and I am currently an undergraduate Music Education student at the University of Miami Frost School of Music in Coral Gables, Florida. Let me tell you a little about this site, and how it came to be:

What IS MusicEdMajor.net?

MusicEdMajor.net is dedicated to helping Music Education majors get the most out of their course of study. Focused mainly on the undergraduate degree (although many topics are applicable to all undergraduate and post-graduate levels), MusicEdMajor.net provides news, tips, insights, and general discussion on the experiences that Music Education majors are likely to encounter. Also included are resources and recommendations to help with your networking, job search, and What’s Next?! Join in and help make MusicEdMajor.net become THE Music Education Major’s one-stop shop on the web!

How Did MusicEdMajor.net Begin?

My initial plan in creating this resource for Music Education majors was two-sided. First, I want to provide an online community for students in the field of Music Education where ideas can be shared. There are many blogs on the topic of Music Education from the perspective of current educators (if you’re interested, check out Dr. J. Pisano’s list of 100 Music Education Bloggers), but there are few blogs or websites written by (and even fewer written for) college students who are pursuing degrees in the field. I felt this was a large hole in the music education blogging community, and decided that it needed to be filled. Secondly, I knew that blogging about this topic would not only provide help to the readers of the blog, but would also help me as I continue along with my degree program. I knew that creating this resource would not only allow me to share my thoughts, but would challenge me to come up with new thoughts and ideas on productivity, professional development, networking, and the overall experience of being a student.

This resouce was initially conceived to be a podcast, published by myself, including interviews and short episodes in the realm of the above description. However, as I set to work on my first podcast episode, I realized just how much content could be covered on this subject, and decided that a podcast would not be the most efficient and effective way to present all the information I could; after all, a significant portion of publishing a podcast is devoted to editing audio and other administrative activities not related to the subject of the podcast. It was at this point that I decided a blog would be a better avenue, and MusicEdMajor.net was born.
