A few exciting announcements about where MusicEdMajor.net will be headed as we move into the month of October:

New Contributor – Sari Feinstein

We have spent a good amount of time on the site discussing tips and tricks for being a Music Education Major, either at the undergraduate or graduate level. There have even been some teaching tips and thoughts posted for those who have finished their degrees. However, an area of the music education “lifespan” that we have yet to touch upon is the preparations for music school. To help us explore these ideas, I have added another regular contributor to our gang – Sari Feinstein.

Sari comes to us as an expert in the field of being a high school student applying to study Music Ed in college – because that’s exactly what she is doing right now! Sari is a senior at Commack High School in New York, where she serves as the president of her Tri-M chapter and Drum Major of her marching band. Sari is a trumpet player with specific interests in African drumming and ethnomusicology, and we look forward to her sharing her thoughts on the college application/audition process; from my discussions with her so far, she had this all figured out before she even began! Sari will be writing over the course of the school year, covering subjects ranging from choosing schools to apply to, choosing audition repertoire, preparing for/playing the audition, and making final decisions on where to go. We are so excited to have her on board! You can follow Sari on Twitter at @sarifeinstein.

If the application process isn’t your thing, then never fear – we’ll still have great content from regular and guest authors on all other topics, too!

Blog Carnival

Just this morning, Dr. Joseph Pisano of MusTech.net posted the October edition of the Music Education Blog Carnival. The music education carnival, a monthly compilation of the best in the music education blogosphere, was started by Dr. Pisano, and MusicEdMajor.net hosted the last edition of the carnival for the 2009-2010 school year back in May. It is my pleasure to announce that once again, we will be hosting the November Music Education Blog Carnival here at MusicEdMajor.net!

If you have a post that is in any way related to Music Education, I strongly encourage you to consider submitting it for inclusion in this month’s carnival. To do so, just head over to the submission page. If you have any questions about the process, check out my <a

In this case, you can expect the Carnival to be published on May 1, and be a recap of the month of April.

What Do I Write About?

Are you interested in writing for the Music Ed Blog Carnival? Not sure what to write about? It’s quite simple, actually: write about music education! Okay, maybe that was a bit obvious. However, the Blog Carnival does allow you to submit your post under one of the following categories:

Music Advocacy

Music Education

Music Pedagogy

Music Performance

Music Software/Hardware

Music Technology

Music Tips

Other

If your post falls into any of these categories (which it likely does, seeing as how there’s an “Other” category!), I strongly encourage you to submitting it to the Carnival!

How Do I Submit?

It’s easy!
